Sprint

« Back to Glossary Index

A Sprint is a fixed-length period in Scrum during which a team creates a usable product increment.

Each iteration lasts one month or less and has a clear goal. Therefore, the team can focus on a defined outcome and gather feedback regularly.

During Sprint Planning, the team selects Product Backlog items and creates an iteration backlog. Moreover, it defines the work needed to achieve the goal.

The Developers inspect progress during the Daily Scrum and adjust their plan when necessary. Meanwhile, the backlog remains visible and changes as the team learns.

At the end, the Sprint Review evaluates the increment with stakeholders. Afterwards, the Sprint Retrospective identifies improvements for teamwork, quality, and delivery.

The Product Owner may clarify or reorder future work. However, changes during the iteration must not endanger the agreed goal.

Regular goals, usable increments, inspection, and adaptation support focused delivery and continuous improvement.
